Dear Sirs,

I am writing to you today as a concerned parent in Plano ISD and a member of the XXX School PTA. As I watched the deadline for the Hold Harmless funding extension that my district received pass us by with no additional guidance, I was dismayed that we now have started the New Year without ensuring our public schools have adequate funds. If there is no extension to fund schools based on historic attendance it is possible schools may not receive the much-needed funding they were counting on.  In Plano ISD, this equates to approximately $10 million.  The only way to offset this type of gap is to impact staffing and programs.

I am urging you to reach out to all of the Legislative Leadership with this message: the 2020-21 hold harmless must be extended. The issue simply can’t wait any longer. It’s a simple and straightforward move that you can and should take today.

Our educators didn’t push off their responsibility to support students and families when the pandemic hit. And state leaders shouldn’t delay in acting to support our teachers and principals.  I request that you fully fund the 2020-2021 school year and back the future of our state.

Sincerely,

Plano ISD Parent
