PTA for Families
The Plano ISD Council of PTAs is a family-focused organization. In our efforts to coordinate support of PISD students with local campus PTA/PTSAs and businesses within the community, we aim to host events each year that will benefit the students, but that are also family-friendly events.

And, we haven't even mentioned the advocacy that the PTA leads...
Why Else Should I Join the PTA
The number one reason to join the Parent Teacher Association is to benefit your child. In doing so, you also help your school. But there are many more PTA advantages:
- Get Connected—There’s no better way to know what’s happening in your school.
- Discover Great Resources—The PTA offers a variety of programs designed for parents as well as students.
- Tap into a Network—PTA functions are opportunities to meet other parents and teachers, building rapport and discussing issues that are on your mind. You can share ideas, concerns, and experiences.
- Watch Yourself Grow—By volunteering with your PTA, you put your skills and hobbies to use for a noble cause—your child and all children in the community.
- Speak Up—PTA can be a way for you to more effectively suggest change at your child’s school.
- Witness Improvement—By getting involved at your child’s school, you’ll be part of the solution, helping make positive changes. Local PTAs play an important role by supporting building improvements through advocacy and play an important role in fundraising for curriculum-based programs and social events.
- Be a Role Model—By becoming a PTA member, you’ll be demonstrating to your child the importance you place on education.
- Enjoy Substantial Benefits—Individuals and local units can take advantage of a host of benefits from PTA membership including discounts and offers from member benefits providers and sponsors, magazine subscriptions, leadership training, e-newsletters, and much more.
And?
Joining a local campus PTA is more than joining a group of parents at your school. The Plano ISD Council of PTAs works to ensure that all Plano ISD PTA/PTSAs remain in good standing with the Texas PTA and National PTA organizations. This allows any PISD PTA Member to access the full range of resources available at every level of the PTA.
As such, the Plano ISD Council of PTAs works to provide resources to implement the National Standards for Family-School Partnerships to help foster family engagement for every student. Those standards:
- Welcoming All Families into the school community—Families are active participants in the life of the school and feel welcomed, valued, and connected to each other, to school staff, and to what students are learning and doing in class.
- Communicating Effectively—Families and school staff engage in regular, two-way, meaningful communication about student learning.
- Supporting Student Success—Families and school staff continuously collaborate to support students’ learning and healthy development both at home and at school, and have regular opportunities to strengthen their knowledge and skills to do so effectively.
- Speaking Up for Every Child—Families are empowered to be advocates for their own and other children, to ensure that students are treated fairly and have access to learning opportunities that will support their success.
- Sharing Power—Families and school staff are equal partners in decisions that affect children and families and together inform, influence, and create policies, practices, and programs.
- Collaborating with Community—Families and school staff collaborate with community members to connect students, families, and staff to expanded learning opportunities, community services, and civic participation.
