From the Desk of Julia Wiblin, Plano ISD Council of PTAs President
PTA Leaders,
Strong PTA leadership makes a powerful difference in how our schools and communities thrive. Here are a few ways leaders can set their teams up for success this year:
Communicate with Purpose: Clear and timely communication through meetings, newsletters, and check-ins keeps everyone aligned. Sharing updates on goals, events, and progress ensures members feel informed and valued.
Delegate and Build Leaders: PTA is strongest when many hands and voices are involved. Share responsibilities across your board and committees, and encourage volunteers to take ownership. This approach not only gets things done but also develops future leaders.
Stay Mission-Centered: Every activity, fundraiser, and event should connect back to PTA’s mission to make every child’s potential a reality. Reminding your team of this bigger picture helps sustain focus and energy during busy seasons.
Recognize and Celebrate: A sincere thank you or public acknowledgment goes a long way. Recognizing milestones and volunteer contributions builds momentum and keeps members engaged.
Leadership in PTA is more than managing events. It is about inspiring others, uplifting families, and ensuring every child has a voice. By leading with clarity, teamwork, and purpose, you will help your PTA flourish this school year.
Your partner in supporting Every Child with One Voice,
A heartfelt thank you to our INCREDIBLE Local PTAs for supporting our students and community! We are truly thankful for your generous donations for the hygiene kits we put together for 5th Grade Camp and for the Plano ISD Welcome and Enrollment Centers. Together, we make great things happen!

Minutes Matter: Notes from Jenny Jackson, Council Secretary
I hope your school year is off to a great start! I am Jenny Jackson, your Secretary contact on the Plano Council of PTAs. The Council board's main goal is for you and your PTA to be successful and I am here to help you do that!
Many of you have probably already had your first meeting or it is coming up soon. To help you get started on the right path, I have a checklist:
Register yourself as an officer with TX PTA and please encourage all of your fellow Board members to do this as well. This is where Council gets the information to create their distribution lists.
Complete the Foundations Essentials training video once in your PTA career, and then this year, complete the BASICS Secretary training video.
Review the TX PTA Financial Reconciliation Checklist. Especially page 3. (Committee Member #2) I think this is a good way for you to get an idea of what you need to have in your bound books for the reconciliation at the end of the fiscal year.
Complete a Plan of Work (POW)- Coordinate with the Treasurer for what information they want on the POW.
Request a copy of your bylaws on or after August 1, 2026 to get the newest version of your bylaws and standing rules. The very last sentence of Article XIV should include the date August 1, 2026. If it doesn't, you do not have the most recent template. It is important that you are always working with the most recent version. Many questions can often be answered by reviewing your Bylaws and Standing Rules.
Coordinate with the President to decide how you want to have the minutes for each meeting reviewed. 3 options:
Secretary reads the minutes at the next meeting and then has them approved by those present.
Secretary distributes the minutes via email prior to the next meeting and then have the minutes approved at the meeting by those present
At each meeting, President appoints a Minutes Review Committee of 3 people to review the current minutes prior to the next meeting
Learn what your PTA’s quorum is for each type of meeting- Board or Membership. This information is specified in your Bylaws.
At your first Board meeting work with the President on the following:
All Board members should sign the Confidentiality, Ethics, and Conflict of Interest Agreement.
The Records Retention policy and any other stand-alone policies (E-Commerce policy, Social Media policy, etc.) are reviewed by the Executive Board and then adopted by the membership at a Membership meeting.
I hope that you find this list helpful. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or need assistance with anything. Thank you to each of you for generously giving your time and efforts to support your school community!

Texas PTA requires that every PTA bank, credit card, and e-commerce account statement be reviewed each month by a PTA member who is not an authorized signer. This review is an important monthly checkpoint that supports your end-of-year Financial Reconciliation and is also required by your PTA insurance.
The reviewer is appointed by the President and approved by the executive board. Using the official form at txpta.org/treasurer, they examine each month’s statements for accuracy and accountability.
Completed forms are filed with the Secretary, with copies for the Treasurer and reviewer, and reported at the next board meeting.
This simple step protects PTA funds and keeps your association in compliance all year long.
