Supporting Families with Literacy and Numeracy
Great schools happen when educators and families pull in the same direction, and Plano ISD is working to make that partnership easier through clear, family-friendly resources for reading and math at home.
Each October, the district hosts an Early Literacy Campaign and contest for students in PreK–2nd grade. This initiative highlights how important it is to read with young children every day and gives campuses and families fun ways to celebrate early literacy together. Families can support this effort by watching for and sharing district and campus social media posts, looking for literacy tips in school and PTA newsletters, and tying reading activities into campus events like family nights, book fairs, or fall festivals.
Throughout the year, the district also provides resources to help families support both literacy and numeracy at home, including ideas for games, questions to ask while reading, and simple ways to build math confidence in everyday routines.
