As we close another incredible school year, I want to take a moment to thank every local PTA leader, volunteer, educator, family member, and community partner who has dedicated time, energy, and heart to supporting students across Plano ISD this year. May is always a busy season filled with end-of-year celebrations, officer transitions, award recognitions, final programs, graduations, staff appreciation events, and preparations for the upcoming school year. While many activities are winding down on campuses, PTA leaders are already planning ahead for a successful transition into the new PTA year.

This month, we are especially proud to share that the Plano ISD Council of PTAs has been selected to receive the Texas PTA Advocacy Impact Award for the 2025-2026 school year. This recognition reflects the collective voice and dedication of our local PTAs and communities who continue to advocate for students, families, educators, and strong public schools. Advocacy happens in many ways, from supporting students on campus to engaging with district and state leaders, and this award belongs to every volunteer and family who helps make that impact possible.

As I wrap up my two years serving as Council President, I am filled with gratitude for the people who make this work so meaningful. It has been an honor to serve alongside dedicated PTA leaders who show up, solve problems, encourage one another, and keep students at the heart of every decision. These two years have reminded me that PTA leadership is not about one person or one title. It is about the collective impact we create when families, schools, and communities work together.

Local PTAs are completing budgets, finalizing reports, celebrating volunteers, and preparing incoming officers for their new roles. I encourage everyone to take pride in the difference you have made this year. The work of PTA truly matters, and the impact reaches far beyond a single event or school year. Thank you for continuing to lead with service, compassion, and commitment to every child in Plano ISD. 

Wishing all of our students, staff, and families a strong finish to the school year and a wonderful summer ahead.

Your gift can also help your campus PTA earn a giveback. PTAs can receive 20% back on funds raised over $250, and the Foundation will award $500 to the campus PTA with the highest percentage of participation at each school level.

Musical Minds Plano offers fun, high-quality afterschool piano programs that build confidence and academic skills. Serving Plano ISD for 10+ years across multiple campuses in the DFW metropolitan area. Hosted classes at 20+ schools and recreation centers!

This year’s theme, “I Belong,” inspired students to share their voices, stories, cultures, hopes, and creativity in beautiful and powerful ways. Through dance, film, literature, music, photography, and visual arts, our students reminded us that everyone deserves a place where they feel seen, valued, welcomed, and supported.

Each entry was a celebration of identity, connection, and belonging. These students used their creativity to show that our differences make our community stronger, our stories matter, and each of us has something meaningful to contribute.

We are so proud of every student, family, volunteer, and PTA leader who helped make Reflections such a meaningful celebration of student voice and the arts.

Congratulations, winners! Your creativity inspires us, and your message reminds us all: You belong. 

990 Filing

The 2025-2026 Treasurer should file the 990 within 60 days of the end of the fiscal year. The IRS does allow more time; but Texas PTA Standards of Affiliation does not!

Texas PTA 2026-2027 Officer Registration 

The Texas PTA officer registration link is now available for incoming officers. All officers should complete the Executive Board Member Registration form. This registration is how Council compiles our distribution lists and is crucial to ensuring officers receive important information and updates from Texas PTA and Plano ISD Council of PTAs.

EVERYONE should complete the “Boardsmanship” training plus any role specific training (if available) The 2026-2027 Secretary should file everyone's completion certificates for reconciliation.

About the Award

Marni Kaner was a dedicated and passionate PTA volunteer for more than 20 years. She was well known across the state for her innovative ideas, practical advice, warm heart, and unwavering commitment to PTA. Her leadership strengthened campuses, communities, and membership growth throughout Texas.

Created in 2021, the Lead Like Marni Award honors volunteers who reflect that same spirit. These are leaders who champion the PTA mission, welcome and encourage others, face challenges with grit and humor, and generously share their knowledge. They lead with compassion, humility, creativity, and a genuine desire to see others succeed.

Plano ISD Council of PTAs believes strong leadership builds stronger schools. Take a moment to nominate a volunteer who exemplifies service, leadership, and excellence.

Publishing is a powerful incentive for learning and is a unique way to validate that a child’s voice should be heard.  Each year, young writers in the 3rd-12th grade all across the globe have the chance to be published authors. This first taste of success can last a lifetime! The iWRITE Non-Profit Organization offers students the opportunity to submit their writing and artwork to our annual publishing contest.

Deadline to submit is May 31, 2026.

Local PTAs are encouraged to take advantage of the Texas PTA Connect programs available to run on campus at no cost.

To strengthen program quality even further, PTAs are also encouraged to review the Facilitator’s Guide. This resource provides practical guidance on planning and delivering exceptional programs, including how to incorporate icebreakers, structure the agenda, and keep participants engaged throughout the event.

After reviewing the guide, PTAs are invited to share feedback and takeaways.

Bring your team, build your skills, and get ready for a strong year ahead.  Council will be sharing more information about any planned activities for our Plano PTAs during the next several weeks. This is such a great way for your board to connect with each other and people from all over the state!

Take advantage of Plano’s convenient drive-through Saturday Community Recycling Events.

Electronics recycling is available on the first, second, and third Saturday of each month.

Secure, on-site paper shredding is offered on the second and third Saturday of each month. This is a great option for disposing of sensitive documents safely.

Donations of gently used items are accepted on the third Saturday of each month, including clothes, shoes, purses and wallets, belts, hats and caps, backpacks, hard toys, soft toys, and stuffed animals.
