Meet the candidates for PISD Board of Trustees and Collin College Board of Trustees on Tuesday, April 2, 6:30-8:30 pm, at the PISD Administration Board Room, 2700 W 15th St. This is hosted by the PISD Council of PTAs and the League of Women Voters of Collin County. Plano ISD PTA members traveled to Austin on Rally Day to advocate for public education. We met with PISD legislators: Representative Leach, Representative Shaheen, and Senator Paxton.  There was a rally on the capitol steps and a priorities caucus about education topics like school finance and mental health. Senate Bill 3 calls for a $5000 pay increase for teachers and librarians. It passed a vote in the Senate, and next it moves to the House. Find the details about the bill.


 

 

HB 3 calls for increasing overall education funding by $9 billion over 2 years, increasing the basic allotment by $890 per student, lowering ISD property taxes, raising the minimum teacher salary and providing merit pay opportunities, reducing recapture, increasing funding for dyslexia identification and dual language immersion, and establishing full-day pre-K for low income students. www.thetexasplan.com


 

US Congressman Van Taylor invites high school students in District 3 to submit 2D artwork for a congressional art competition. Check your district, and find more information about the competition. The deadline is April 10.
